Got Milk? How about 90 glasses a day?

An average American Holstein dairy cow produces approximately 75 pounds — or about 9 gallons — of milk per day.
Over a standard 305-day lactation period, that adds up to around 23,000 pounds of milk. Depending on health, nutrition, and stage of lactation, daily production can range from about 4 to more than 11 gallons.
That’s roughly 90 glasses of milk every single day from one cow.
Holsteins make up more than 90% of the U.S. dairy herd, and their high production is one reason they are the dominant dairy breed in the country.
Behind every gallon are dedicated dairy farmers who carefully manage nutrition, herd health, and cow comfort to ensure safe, high-quality milk for families across America.
