Topic: Independent Contractors in Agriculture
Farms and rural businesses often rely on independent contractors to fill specialized roles. AAW supports protecting this working relationship and opposes policies that force broad reclassification of contractors as employees.
📌 Our Position: AAW supports clear, flexible definitions of independent contractors that reflect the realities of ag work. We oppose state and federal rules that limit a producer’s ability to use contract labor effectively.
🛠️ Why It Matters: Independent contractors offer farms access to skilled labor—like mechanics, harvest crews, or custom applicators—without the burden of full employment. Restrictions reduce flexibility and raise costs.
